| I should take pics but she is a filthy girl at the moment, I wouldn't let my mother see her. There has been one scrap on one of the speed bumps but nothing much, she could go a little lower. We should be at this thursdays meet unless the newly MOT'd Beetle comes. They failed her on pulling brakes . So Knighty came over to the MOT car park and helped me perform a fix. Paul, a mechanic at the workshop there, helped out by lending me tool and also fitting some new split pins. He then came out with me for a new brake test and a while later we had a green sheet for her. That was a painful few hours and to be sure, I will be fitting new brake hoses and cylinders to the drums to bring it all up to the same standard. Old cars, don't you just love them | |

| Time to update the thread a little on the Golf to actually say what has been done. New brake disks and pads all round Cambelt and water pump Poly bushed wishbone mounts (not front) Poly bushed drop links Poly bushed ARB Poly bushed engine mount Silicon cold side induction pipe (forge) Silicon Turbo intake pipe (forge), cut inside of light cluster to get it to fit. Silicon boost bypass pipe (forge) Complete revised and modified PCV system. Adjustable recirculating blow off valve (forge fmcl007p) Replaced vacuum pipes with silicon pipes and new clips. Replaced N75F valve with N75JGaz GHA coilover suspension with a good drop and a lot of dampening. I was trying to get it running right before a simple remap but got stuck between a stage one and a stage two remap so carried on working on it. OK up coming work for the car: Fit the Turbo Back Milltek exhaust system that should arrive in the next few days. Take off the rear dampeners and cut down the bump stops as I think it is riding on them. Replace two more boost hoses that have been sitting in a box. Replace all boost pipe clips with stronger ones where not already done. Drop the front a few more cm's Buy a new after market panel filter. Clay and polish the car. I am also considering a Forge front mounted intercooler as that should give me better running. I now like this car, not as much as I liked my MK2 but it is now close and the engine is certainly more fun. You might get some pictures soon, she is a bit cleaner now. | |

| Update the thread a bit. Rear bump stops were cut and that made the ride much better, front dropped a few more cm's. This car now handles much better. Milltek exhaust was fitted: The yard with La Silver in the background. Do you think that downpipe will make a difference? It was quite a change. Getting serious with the grinder. K & N panel filter fitted. This car is now sounds, looking and riding much better. She is still dirty though so I plan to call her dirty girl for now. | |

| Swapped in some all new coil packs yesterday and fitted a new N75f valve as I believe the j valve was cutting my boost at top end. | |

| An addition to the project cost will be new underwear for me. Jen tried everything, Cillit bang, a spatula and a blowtorch but we had to bury them in the end.
I was very impressed, a modern heavy car that feels as nimble as something much smaller.
Its always good to actually reap the rewards of lots of hard work.

| Sorry about that, I should have remembered that with my motorbike riding and your fear of dying that I was going to do nothing other than make you need new underpants. | |

| Nah, like I said it was like a system check.
Heatbeat - check Thought processes - check Grip (both on door handle and sphincter on seat) - check Adrenaline - check silly giggle - check Emergency evacuation process of poo factory - also check.
In all seriousness I was bloody impressed how different it felt from the day we test drove it down in wycombe. Its a credit to you dude.
Can't wait for a post remap ride along. I'll get Jen to get some incontinence pants from work so we'll be ok.
Stu
PS - Geoff is a cracking driver, I am a shite passenger. I find the big wheel at the fair too scary, and on theme park days out I am the designated bag holder off to one side.

| A week before Fitzy's went, my driver side windows regulators broke. These are the grips that hold the bottom of the window and are on wires that make the window go up and down. More information and how to fix them is here: Replacing Windows Regulators and door locks.
It just took about 90 minutes to do the driver side, fairly straight forward but only because I knew where the clips were.

| Had your windows dropped completely? That is meant to make it a bit harder, I had also taken it apart the week before to see what bits I needed so that meant half the clips were already loose. | |

| I only changed the clips, did you change the wire and pully system? I made sure I read up on it before I started so I knew what to expect. It also allowed me to check the door seals were not leaking as well. | |

| Well it took three hours as there was a few obstacles I needed to over come and the bumper needs taking off and refitting but the intercooler is on. The map sensor had corroded into the old intercooler, I had to cut it out carefully and refit it. Then I just couldn't get the bumper properly fitting on my own but other than that it was a simple enough job.
Photos coming. | |
