Hum, can't say I feel any difference other than smoother all the way. But I had one test run with my mate in the car who hates speed so I can't say it was anything other than a shake down run.
I have already lost one of the front vent covers though. Mad
Also need some thicker pipes for the cold side diversion...

Updates.
It would appear the FMIC bracket is not particularly strong and this allows the intercooler to tap the aircon condensor (radiator), this has very likily put a hole in it and hence why my aircon doesn't work. That is another job on the list of things to get done alone with the gearbox oil and the alternator belt needs doing.

However the driver side rear bearings have given up so I needed to do that first. I striped it down over the last two nights and have fitted a new set following this guide which I can't better:
Info for Rear Bearing replacement.

The only thing I would add is that a 16mm socket is needed for the hub nuts and that the gear puller is an annoying instrument, designed to make you scream but trying to remove it all without one has resulted in over sized (and painful) thumb muscles.
The job was about 2 hrs long with an addition 1 or swearing when the wheel just would not come off the hub.

Once the whole lot was refitted I found out is still makes a noise, not a real surprise as the rear disk looked a little odd. I am now looking for a larger set for the rear and front prior to the remap that might eventually happen if things don't keep on breaking.

It wasn't the disks, it was the suspension making the noise.
I took the rear shocks off and refitted it and the noise went away. Very Happy
Now I need to get the bits for the flywheel and clutch (G60 or ABF 16V flywheel) and get that fitted.
Also I need to upgrade the brakes, calipers and brackets front and rear...

Sod the aircon getting fixed, winter is coming.

OK time for an update. The car took a knock from an old gent in November so it got a new front end so that tidied up a few bits.
I need to go bigger brakes so needed bigger wheels so some 17" Team Dynamic Pro-race III's were fitted.
That has improved handling and braking as well as acceleration as they are a little bit lighter. Wink

Now to find some brakes to fill them holes.

Looking good, but you're right - definitely needing more brake behind the wheels Smile

Take it L55KE's RS4 discs are just a touch too big? It's fun being able to lock all 4 wheels at 70mph!

PostSubject: Re: Current Toys   Current Toys - Page 4 I_icon_minitimeTue Mar 23 2010, 05:55

As this is my thread I will state my feelings, my plan is to go lighter and more efficient.
Bigger disks don't necessarily stop the car quicker, they dissipate heat better so fad is less but as you mention, locking all the wheels doesn't actually bring you to a stop.
The bigger the disk, the more energy is required to get it spinning and ultimately the more force is required to bring that momentum to a stop. Then there is the gyroscopic effect of that massive spinning disk as you attempt to turn the wheels and go around a corner.
The RS4 brakes will slow my car down and ruin performance in all aspects including remove sensible braking options. Very Happy

Looks are second to drive-ability for me but there will be a trade off, as long as I like what I see. These wheels should clear 334mm x 32mm R32 disks but 312mm x 25mm Audi TT 225's should be enough with the right pads to handle the power I hope to get from the engine.
The rears look frankly silly though and the upgrades I am looking at go from 232mm to 256mm so not a lot.
Very Happy

People are saying the off-set is different but I do fancy a set of them, R32's would also do.
After that, I would only need to change the carriers and disks as the calipers are the same as the ones I already have.

VW Golf R32 | Audi TT 3.2 Quattro
# The Front brakes are 334mm x 32mm Vented 2-piece Discs, Twin piston(32mm/42mm) calipers
# The Rear brakes are 256mm x 22mm Vented Discs, 38mm Lucas singles

Seat Leon Cupra R
The Front brakes are 323mm x 28mm Vented (grooved/drilled option) discs with 4 piston(34/38mm) Brembo calipers
The rear brakes are 256mm x 22mm Vented , with 38m Lucas single piston calipers

My minicab's got 300mm, 4 piston fronts and stops like you dropped an anchor, car weighs 1570Kg so can see that even R32 brakes might be overkill - what about V6 4Motions, what do they have?

R32 might be overkill for the power I am going to have.

At present a remap should get over 240 but with the KO4 Turbo I should get 265 but we are not there yet.

TBH Geoff the 312/288 kit's enough to stop even the quickest VR-Turbo pushing 300+ should be fine stopping a "porky" mk4...

^^^ Seconded, my 288s are more than enough at 260bhp, the best thing I did to mine was fit braided hoses.

Heat dissipation is the problem, not stopping. I have some track day plans so the 312mm are a simple and cheap upgrade that makes the most sense.
