| As a glutton for punishment, I've gone and bought myself another mk1 golf - another two door driver without the sunroof. Solid, never been welded etc etc. Plans are ( within the next two days ) coilovers, stereo, new front spoiler, centre console dials, wolfsburg steering wheel, single headlamp front end full service ( sadly it has the FOUL GF code 1.3 with THAT stupid cylinder head and low compression ). Long term - who knows, still waiting for the insurance pay out on my other mk1, but this'll do till then .

| Sorted out a couple of things I've always found unacceptable with this particular mk1... New filler cap " The " steering wheel. Ripped the old stereo out too - chocolate teapots spring to mind instantly with this. Whoever wired it in should have gone to specsavers - scotch locks on cigarette lighter wiring!?!?! Front spoiler - I've gone for the original driver type as opposed to the Gti " batwing " for reasons that will be apparent later.. - please note also, the presence in the drivers seat of the unhelpful helper with its freshly installed " silencer " | |

Whoever wired it in should have gone to specsavers - scotch locks on cigarette lighter wiring!?!?! Sounds like a Halfords fit to me - having spent nearly 2y doing warranty work for them on stereos you get to know the signs | |

| Cheers for all the positives !!! Haven't added much else really recently, stuck on a set of those nice dash vent trims, as the dash was peeling and looked shite ( and my other mk1 has them - so why not ) oh and changed the floor mates out for some proper '83 VW ones.... Might make time in the garage tonight ( when the kids are zzzz'ing ) to start looking at the MH code 1.3 from my old polo - will make a much better bet than the GF thats in there now.. | |

| Hahahaha !! Quick update. My brakes are TOAST !!! I might have sorted out some 8v gti calipers for the front - which is fine for this thing. HOWEVER, does anyone know if I can just bolt up the mk1 gti drums/shoes/cylinders on the back ?? Or if indeed they're any different from whats on there at the mo !?!?!?! anyway, heres an old pic of me struggling last year with my mk2 ( which I wish I hadn't sold )....purely because I don't have any other pics to post... | |

| Blimey, only just spotted your reply man ! Things - they move slow in old Leavesden... Lately the golf has apparently mended its own fuel leak ( its stopped for over a month now - can't see anything wrong ANYWHERE ) an oil switch failed which made me think I had no oil in it. and the rad has decided to spring a leak.....anyone got one ??? GSF are all out of them - had the last two in the company it would appear and they were both broken.. Still - got some new rims coming soon, and maybe go a little lower....... | |

| After some metal on metal action on the front brake er.. " front " , I decided to fit the gti brakes that I had lined up for the gold mk1 ( although now I've got it all worked out I'll build up another set for that car ) Its really simple - Early mk2 gti calipers Carriers from a mk2 polo ( I got mine from an '89 " Fox " ) mk1 gti vented front discs some pagid/jurid pads I also needed some new carrier bolts, as the ones that came from the scrapyard were too short, I popped over to GPC car parts ( who are now near Hitchin NOT Luton as their website states ! ) We poured over ETKA for five mins and decided that a set of bolts for a mk2 would be fine - and guess what !? THEY ARE !! Vents !!!! Much better. This is in " mock up " stage at the mo, need to get some of the spring tensioner things that keep the pads level, other than a quick bleed job ( and fitting the same to the other side obviously ! ) its good to go / stop. | |

| Went up to the yard last week and netted this lot from what was left on an '82 gti... Front seats ( need a really good clean and ONE repair ) front wishbones/anti roll bar/calipers various buttons/switches MFA stalks etc etc fuel tank and accumulator. I also went back a few days later and grabbed the rear beam and the injection fuel tank.... pretty pleased. | |
