Oh Hai thar

Well I was struggling to fall in love with my Golf, I had the intentions to keep the golf standard and original to stop me from ruining it.

But deep down I just wanted to slam it and make it loud and smash the sump every week so with this in mind I just thought i would get another old VW that was a bit rough and needed some Scirocco. 161462

So on Saturday I went to essex and got myself this.

Its an 87 Rocco with a 1600 GT engine with a 4 + E box.

Engine seems to drive okay gearbox has taken a while to get used too.

There a few bit a lacquer peel on the roof and rear quarter panels.

DSC_0546

Comes with these gorgous BBS rollers which I plan on selling for millions or small countrys.

DSC_0543

Interior is very sunfaded, drivers seat is buggered, headlining buggered but cool original stereo which I am too young to know how to make work.

Car has no central locking or powersteering both of which the Golf has ...

But I got it for £350 with mot and tax and every mot certificate dating back to 1991.

Hope you like.

Something to get stuck into there - love the old Rocco shape. My dad had a few when I was young, apparently he had to get a Golf because something about the Rocco made me projectile vomit every time he took me out in it Very Happy Give you a wave if I spot it around Tring

Adam i used 800 wet n dry they were in pretty good nick so didnt need much prep.

Dash I was never a fan until I saw this for sale and thought it was a bit different from the golf bandwagon everyone is on. You were saying about getting a cheap winter car you should get a rocco they seem pretty underated and pop up cheaply you could easily get one sub £500, mine was only £350 with tax n test and im the 3rd owner.

Ive got coilovers in the boot im gonna try and fit them tomorrow but the most mechanical thing ive ever done is change the spark plugs.

Fingers Crossed!

Well as I said in my update yesterday I was gonna try and fit my coilovers well today I manned up and gave it a go took me 7 1/2 hours and alot of swearing not bad for a complete noob but I got the job done, heres alot of pics for you all to have a ganders at.

Well started on the fronts first, started like this..

DSC_0679

With a little pursuasion with a hammer ended like this

DSC_0684

Then I realised I need the old topmount for the new coils but I really struggled removing with the strut not on the car so I bolted it up and loosened it completly, forgot about using spring clamps so there was a loud thud looked under the car to see the spring fully extended squashing the strut between the cv joint and the inner wing, so I brought out my friend the grinder and all was happy again.

DSC_0686

Ta da one down 3 to go. . .

DSC_0685

Started on the other side and really struggled getting one of the bottom bolts out and really needed a breaker bar, obviously my kindergarten tool kit didnt have one so I crafted something else, introducing the RAKER BAR.

DSC_0687

Worked a treat

DSC_0688

Front wheels done!

DSC_0689

Had some lunch! Gotta love frankfurters

DSC_0703

Me trying to look like I know what im doing

DSC_0692

How the front sits

DSC_0693

Still trying to get that strut out, one of Laurens car

DSC_0699

Getting involved

DSC_0709

It was dark by the time i fitted that one

DSC_0712

Fitted the other side without taking a pic, but this is the finished product for now still need to play with the height, sorry for the crappy pics it was way to dark and had to use the crappy flash!

DSC_0714

DSC_0715

Will get better pics tomorrow.

I was chuckling to my self when It worked!

Deffo needs smaller tyres to be fair it needs different wheels altogether, but the wheels and will stay until after winter when Ill spend some cash on nice wheels, currently rubbing the front tyres on coilovers need to get that sorted.

NICE ONE DUUUUUUDE ..... getting stuck in is what its all about

you should be very pleased with yourself

i saw your rocco in the corner of the meet and had no idea it was yours

again ......good work
i love rocco's i just cant get in or out of them.

the front tyre could be fowling the coilover because you need to ajust your front canber a little, the only problem is if you go to much the tyre will fowl the arch instead

basically remove wheel loosen the two lower bolts untill you have play between hub and coily fully pushed awy from you will be positive camber or tyre hitting coil. fully toward you will be negative camber tyre hitting arch. you want it in the middle -ish..make sure both sides are the same .

if it still hits coily you might wanna fit a spacer , but i would try to avoid that unless you get hubcentric ones , halfraud ones ar tuuurd especially on the front.

the other option is roll the arch for more space ?

next question is WHEN you gonna lower your missis mk2 ????

Cheers Dan I was amazed it all works!

I was thinking it would be the camber, im just being lazy and left it all week because it been dark after work im gonna go and have a play in a minute, yeah I had halfords ones on my old pug they where shocking.

Im supposed to be fitting them tomorrow but there is an old topmount on her coilovers which the guy couldnt remove so Ive got to figure out how to get it off without the strut being on the car, any ideas?

Well today I tried to stop my tyres from rubbing the coilovers.

So off with the wheels to be greeted by this.

DSC_0721

Since I put my coilovers on there has been a horrible crashing noise every bump I go over, looked through the box of old stuff I took off and noticed two caps, spoke to my mate last night about it and he said I should put them on so I took the coilovers off, starting to get pro at removing these now!

DSC_0722

Dont judge me im using that shite widowmaker jack, these are the caps I forgot to fit.

DSC_0723

So I fitted it all back together adjusted the camber and ... it didnt work the driver side worked and that now clears but the passenger side seems imposibble to adjust even with me trying to pull the hub out as far as it would go as soon as I tighten the bolts it pulls it in Evil or Very Mad Drove the car round my estate and it hummed of burning tyre so I did the last resort brought my mum a chinese and she drove to Aylesbury to get these ...

DSC_0724

Ripspeed BLUD!

Sad times but I cant think of any other way to fix it so im gonna run these dodgy ass spacers.

till next time bye!
