| Seen an advert in the back of this months PVW for a fault code reader for £39 from Gendan.co.uk, just wondered whether this sort of thing is a handy tool to have? Or whether you cant actually do much with it compared to the vag-com kits? | |

| Bought one of these and plugged it in today and three faults popped up:
00519 - MAP sensor 01087 - Basic setting not performed 00282 - Throttle posistion actuator - V60
Deleted them through the unit itself but just wanted to ask and i no it may sound silly but why do these codes appear? Is there something wrong with the component in question or is it something ive done? And will they come back? | |

| Its just a basic reset tool mate . should always try and fix the faults to be honest mate they there for a reason. but should fix fault then reset the codes or u may just keep getting them back. the ecu needs to c the fault 3times b4 it puts light on dash but will store pending codes in memory.
hope this helps if not let me know and i can sort problems for u if needed
thanks Andy aka CADDYANDY aka motor mehanic monkey

| I have never used one of them but have full VAG-Com that I often bring to the meets. As Andy aka CADDYANDY aka motor mehanic monkey, if the problem is still there, the fault will just keep coming back. With deeper diagnostics you should be able to get a little more information. This could be a simple MAF leak or sensor issue that could solve all three problems or it could be a lot more. Start by checking that there are no leaks and take it from there. | |

| Sorry to keep on with my problems but dont know where else to look!
Where would my MAF sensor be located? (6n 1.6 AEE) I assumed it would be somewhere in the air intake system but Ive looked in my haynes manual and on clubpolo and google but cant find anything! Maybe Im staring at it but know it by another name?!
I cant remember who said it but ive been told to check it out due to a fault code appearing!
Thanks | |

| Should be a section of the air intake system with a plug (probably 6-pin) plugged into it, a small piece of metal inside the pipe and probably grill either end.
Don't know the engine but if you can't find it may it doesn't have one - should be fairly obvious.
