PostSubject: 2.0 abf in to mk2 driver   2.0 abf in to mk2 driver I_icon_minitimeFri Nov 25 2011, 15:08

carb and auto box on my mk2 are getting realy annoying now, carb over fuels and has some sort of shitty problem that noone knows what it is, and my auto gearbox has been smashed on the floor so many times it somone times wont change ot of first gear unless i floor it all the way to the redline and then i look like a dick when driving arround town

so i want to drop in a 2.0 16v mk3 gti engine

whats involved in fitting it in to my driver and does anyone want to help,

also im limited on space and time due to another project

It's a straight swap Aslong as you have all the essential wiring for the other engine but you will have to now a sort of hybrid wiring system to get all dials and gauges working. Alsong as you have enough research into the wiring side the rest should be easy plus there are lots of forum threads around of people having done the conversion already.

fitzy's right , adam is the man to ask

but basically you need to change EVERYTHING

in chassis terms you will need a mk2gti subframe altho it leaves the engine very close to the bonnet, you can us mk3 one too for 30mm(?) wider track
i wouild recommend 256mm brakes at least as well,
you can use either the mk3 box which is cable change, or mk2 16v box But you will want one with stiffened diff pins (normally done wen they are rebuilt) or you will break it.

or tdi (mk3 )box cable not rod if you crave 150mph +

i your position it might be easier to put and abf in on twin45's?? or equivalent

R1 carbs fit straight on ??
check out clubgti forums for the in depth tech pretty dam sure its all on there

my thoughts 'outside the box'
