| From a nice policeman, about the gantry cameras on the M25 round Heathrow way: - Quote :
- Can confirm that the M25 cameras you refer to were calibrated on 29th Dec and are now set exactly at ACPO guidelines (see table below). These cameras were converted to digital in 2008 and previous to that and the variable speed limit being introduced were actually set at a fixed 93 mph.
Limit Threshold 20 mph 25 mph 30 mph 35 mph 40 mph 46 mph 50 mph 57 mph 60 mph 68 mph 70 mph 79 mph
The cameras are live all the time, however I am aware that not all violations are prosecuted, not sure why (maybe ask your contacts at the Met?).
You are quite correct that not all installations have camera and radar equipment in them and they are moved between gantries but not all that regular.

| They are only live when the gantry has a speed limit listed, if it is off then so is the camera, i know this as my mates dad is a copper. | |

| Apparently not - no speed limit = 70 = 79mph. If there's a live camera fitted, that is.
My GATSO detector backs this up, definitely always picks up 3 or 4 live ones.

| Marty, nope they are almost ALL live... but are linkled to the variable limits... Mt ex-Brother-In-Laws were both Traffic, one TVP one Hampshire... so I trusted this info..
And you see people just blasting through the M4-M3 corridoor at the best part of 90
Mate's Uncle got himself banned on this stretch first time they activated the cameras, each camera=1 offence, so 3-4 cameras=dead licence... and 3-4 fines!

| I would leave those Rat stickers alone and lets just keep to sensible speeds. (Public forum) | |
