| Summer's coming, I've finally got all the bits I need (except for the chip, come on C2!) and the water pump's making noise so time to strip down the Golf! Going to finally relocate the MAF sensor in front of the charger (like OBD-1 charged VRs should be), clean up all the shiny bits, replace water and power steering pumps, drive belt, maybe rad, change the oil in the supercharger and fit a bigger cone air filter in the lower wing (not enough room up top as you'll see). Long weekend and the fact now she lives in the garage means I can spend a bit of time on it, so today it's just the initial strip down and a bit of Gunk. Step one! | |

| I've put a badged grill back on (cheers to tell for getting from a show), has a nice silver strip at the bottom Ready to go, bit of a jack up needed to get onto the bumper bolts: Bye bye bumper and grill.. Hello mr rad. can see 2 welded-on brackets for the rad and the shelf at the bottom; And bye bye slam panel (love how easy this all comes off) Can see it's a bit of a squeeze on the left for a fairly small air filter and no MAF, so I'm going to have to put the MAF then an elbow into the lower wing for a bigger cone filter I've got; What holds the front of a Mk2 together? Clean up the inner wing with some nice Gunk and you can see where the intake has to go down: 3 bolts and the drive belt later... Leaving me with Remove the radiator to reveal Vibra-Technics solid front mount: and an engine block! Power steering pump - should be fairly easy to change. Hopefully the steering will weight up a bit afterwards. Water pump (left pulley below) - right next to the chassis leg. Gonna be interesting getting this one out, think it'll involve tilting Can also see the 2 supercharger mounting bolts on the left and the bracket on the right (in front of the alternator) for the idler pulleys - both part of the charger kit. Hello mr manifold, and hello oily stuff in intake pipe! Back into the garage for a day, and then pump changing tomorrow | |

| Its a z-engineering, I think zr-1. Differs from vortech etc because it runs its own oil bath instead of tapping the sump.
Should be pushing 8psi with the standard pulley. | |

| Hehe, I'm very tempted to get the head off etc (mainly because I haven't got a clue what bits I'll find) but that may have to wait, I want to get her back together with the new MAF location and chip and see how she runs first. | |

| yeah they are down water lane near tescos, my dad used to go there when he was younger, got his lotus cortina bored out there, said it hasnt changed an ounce since the 70's, same machinery etc lol. They deal with all sorts of engine problems, but specialise in re-boring. | |

| Ooh, a proper engineering shop. Cool. There's a motorsport prep place round the back of my work in Watford, I think it's some rich guy's place (he runs Integras in BTCC) but I think they do odd jobs too, going to see if they want to polybush my Golf Now I just need a good, reliable paintshop (for the Golf and the Merc) and somewhere that knows how to service a Z-Engineering 'charger... | |
