| This is gonna be sweet, wish I had the space, me and my mate would have a ratty Mk1 up on ramps before you could say "angry wife" Gotta love pocket money tinkering My 16v was a small bumper later spec (full front windows), definitely liked the look. I must have piccies somewhere.. Spooner bought and broke it so there's probably still bits of it in Nomads' cars (anyone got the scorpion DTS system? want it back ) What's with the greenhouse? Looks like you're growing cars | |

| Tonight I fitted the standard rear lights (cheers Calimori for the loaners) Coolant system bled.
I have Friday off of work to get it MOT ready.
Need to; Change oil Weld a new drivers seat adjuster lock thing to the floor. (Cheers DubDread) Fix the horn Glue up a small split in a CV boot up Sort a dodgy earth on one rear light cluster. weld a small patch on the sill Finish putting the arch trims on. Check/adjust the CO Check timing.
Wash it! It looks like it was found in a hoover bag! Its so dusty up there!
Early start Friday methinks!

| It is worth knowing that a dodgy earth on the rear light on mine ended up as a dodgy earth on the front lights spots as they were on the same circuit. However, no two cars are the same. That is nothing for you to do, keeping my fingers crossed you get it all done and she passes the test. Remember I let you drive mine.... | |

| Friday was hard, but I did the jobs on the list. I was very dirty, and after 10 hours hard graft I was proper fooked. Not many pictures as most was just little tweaks. Biggest job was welding, 10p hole.. well when wire brushed was much bigger as usual. Used some metal I'd cut from the beetle, keeping it dub. Welded, not my best as hot bits kept going in my hair an up my arm, so it kinda distracted me. Then I saw some scabbyness at the end of the sill inside the rear wheelarch, so after a prod I cut it out. Welded more beetle to it. Good times. Then I sorted the horn, 5 min fix, the rear light by running a new earth, adjusted the rear wheel bearings, superglued a split CV boot, repaird the seat lock mechanism as it looked easier than replacing but its not perfect so I may do it properly soon. Changed the oil. So today I gave it a quick wash to remove vacuum bag style dirt, and drove it for the 1st time, down the A41 to the MOT'er. Here she is waiting. Bloody cable come off the bonnet latch so I had to hastily fix that before they came to take it in! During.... No after pictures I'm afraid as not only would it be a pointless picture but Iwasn't in the mood to take pictures. . . . . . . . . . . Because I was over the bloody moon it had passed!!! C'MON! I need to change the rear pads and keep an eye on a front wheel bearing, but the biggest advisory was where the 4 branch wasnt sealing to the exhaust system properly. As this would bug me I nipped down discount, saw my mate Dan and he sorted me out proper quick. It drives nice, not given it any stick yet as I'm too sensible for my own good with new/old cars. Now I need to sort some paint, sort the wheels and generally clean it up. ideally I'd like to machine polish it, but I'm not sure yet. I usually do it by hand. I'm just feeling a bit lazy. More updates as and when I make progress. Again, thanks to dubdread, Papa Steve, and calimori for loaning me bits. Off for a drive.... Stu | |
