firstly you can use
- mk2 gti 8v box
-mk3 gti 8v box
-mk3 1.8 non gti box
-mk3 tdi box

all have rod change ,all basically the same (ratios may vary ???)

problem with mk2 boxs is the diff pins are made of cheese and sheer killing the box

normally a big hole in the bellhousing

so unless you buy one already reconned with stiffened diff pins you could put it in and blow it /or not its a risk???

your best bet is mk3 gearbox 8v gti or tdi no cheese bolts

mk2 8v gti is the small spline clutch type you will have to check if the mk3 boxes are also small spline , if they are large spline you will have to upgrade everything

idealy you want a recon box with a receipt proving diff pin upgrade , i have seen them up on ed38 for as little as £50???

But thems yur options

fitting wise its a dirt heavy pain in theass done on the floor and you will need someone who kows what their doing

but 2000 is WAY too much i say get the parts first

then find a nomad to fit them ;-)

I've found someone to fit it if I can get a hold of one. Have you got any links to any of the recon gearbox's ?

I second Dans comments about spending the money now on getting a box down properly. I kept braking my MK2 and Dan did the same but with a lot of power.
Your best bet is trawling the edition38 and clubgti web sites for spares that have already been rebuilt to take the pain.

i fully agree with CALI ,

i dont know anyone with such a box for sale but

edition 38 and club gti are you best options for recon with receipt

as i said the mk3 boxs dont require modding so might be cheaper /easier to get

a mk3 tdi box =bullet proof even wen you got a 2.0 16v at 180bhp

and longer 5th gear see youu to over 160 mph!!!
