| This is likey to take longer than Fitzys Jetta so dont hold your breath for anything amazing. This is going to be a long restoration/modification to a poorly Mk3 1.6 4dr. Its a GL so its got it all except A/C. Picked up today from a guy at work for £80 as he was adiment that he'd get £100 if he scrapped it. It has 118K on the clock and MOT till Nov 2010. He changed the head gasket as the heater didnt get hot and thats what he ws told it would be. He then put it all together and it wouldnt start, New plugs, dizzy cap and rotor. He lost interest and it stayed in his lock up since 2weeks after the MOT. If I cant get the orginal going I'll wack a 2.0L 16v in there. Its now in my lock up and heres the few pics I have. | |

lol my intial reaction as well, the cam belt on the thrid pic down is on the passanger seat/footwell along with all the other gubbins that belong in the engine bay. Im quite lucky as my next door neigbour is a Master VW Tech so he said if its the timing or fuling two hours, an oil change and she'll be purring away. He also has a Lreg 1.6 himself so I have a point of refrence for where the bits all go.

| Haha Fitz. Yes I will drag myself to a meet this year I promise.
Dread well...
First of all I want to get it running, I am going to try and learn to do most of it myself.
Im wanting to go US spec on this so US tail gate, blanked wings US front bumper and Im thinking of going a bit Murdered. Also eventualy Air ride from Voodoo is the dream but thats along way off.
Im going to purchase myself a Haynes manual, tourque wrench, oil and filter tomorow and have a crack at putting the belts back on. Failing that I will just wait till next door has some spare time.lol.

| Finaly a real update. My next door neibour spent 35mins putting the belt on and timing it and fitting a nearly new battery that he got from work due to warranty replacement and hey presto firied into life after being stood since November.
He's getting a new belt and tensioner, new metal heater pipe as its rusted out and the filter and oil this week so by next Sunday she should be road worthy again.

| Wont be done tomorow now likely be all done during the week and next weekend will be good to roll out the garage and give it a good clean and see how she stands and get some pics up.
Brake fluid change, G12 Plus Plus coolant, New Rotor arm, Dizzy cap, Plugs, Oil & Filter(OE), Belt(OE) and tensioner(OE) means everything should be spot on.
