New here and want to turbo a 1300

Hi all my VW Bro's

This is the first forum I found that actually seems to have some recent activity. I drive a Golf mk 1 1300 1996 model. I was thinking about turboing it and I would appreciate any help on this topic. A friend of mine has a opel corsa 1400 with a KKK T28 turbo that makes about 150kw and upwards. Thats quite descent power for a 600kg car. So what I want to know is what am I suppose to do to the compression ratio, head, and rods? I will be running our South African made Gotech MFI pro fuel injection system. I cannot find a single bloke on the net that has ever turboed a 1300 VW engine! Can it be done? i wana boost a max of .8 bar but .5 will also do

Hi and Welcome dude, not sure if i know anyone thats turbo,d a 1.3.... most people would prob do G40 conversion, altho i suppose you could throw a turbo on 1.3 but the expense versus power is prob not worth doing as you would need to custom build most things... not much help i know! sorry

Thanx guys. We had a drag fun race this weekend and that opel 1400 turbo I wrote about outran 2 liter turbo cars! So if his small engine can do it I hoped mine could too. But he who own the opel hates us VW oaks! Here in SA we always got a fighting going on between VW's and opels! Main rivals!!!!So he cant help me with my plans.

Now it seems you guys know quite a bit about 1800's and 2.0's? If I get a 1800 what mods will be the best to do? I prefer 8v heads. And what brakes do you use? VR6 or a complete let's say Wilwood big brake upgrade?

Welcome to the family

I'm no mechanic, but i'd say go normally aspirated. Gas flowed head, polished and ported, lightened and balance crank, forged piston's, larger injector's and maybe have NOS plumbed in for the extra kick if you require it. Keep us updated on what you decide to do.

get a G60 lump inthere or a fierce 2.0 16v kje/abf lump and whack some throttle boddies on it !!---------that should do the trick!!

Thats a lovely idea,my golf started as 1.3 now 1.8 standard issue. SA still role mk1 golfs out of the factory?Do they do mk2's?my neighbour moved from SA to UK couple of years bk,been trying to teach me bits of corsa?Think thats spelt right.

Our VW factory will still manufacture golf 1's till the end of 2010. Unfortunately we only have the four door versions. In 2006 though they released a special 1.8 R-line.Quite a beaut!!! No mk 2's are not still manufactured since 1992. Our performance vw spares are quite expensive compared to the UK. And G60 motors are extremely scarce. But 2.0 16v's have quite a rep here. I'm putting away some coin to do upgrades soon. But I think I will start at the brakes and suspension cause if I have a 200bhp 2.0 I reeeeeeealy need to stop quicker. These 1.3 brakes are a joke. None ventilated and very very small. Then I want to install some sway bars and strut braces and polyurethane bushes.
