| Hey guys, i have now sourced a 2.0 16V Abf engine, which i wanna use the bottom end of and the rest KR, like Dubsy's.
The timing belt has snapped on the engine, but would this even effect the bottom end? Like it wouldn't need a re-build, would it?

| Dont know alot about engines...but if the cam belt has snapped and the valves have hit the pistons...may have bit of damage to the top of the piston? |

| As mr Adz says, the belt snapping can lead to damage to the bottom end though mostly it is the top that suffers. The pistons can get marked and therefore leave an area where a carbon build up could lead to damage later on through a hot spot. Crack the head off and take a look, you would be able to see any problems with the crowns of the pistons. | |

| Would it be worth a 3.5 hour drive just to see...but then i wouldn't be able to take the head off it there anyways.... | |

| Engine rebuild time me think's, chances are that at least one of the piston's head's will be FUBAR, not counting valve damage. | |

| As said snapped belt mans Cams/valves/pistons are all out of Synch and probably banged into each other...
2 options when this happens...
1/ Scap it 2/ Rebuild
As you're looking to convert, get a good working one, even if this is free, 3.5hrs drive just not worth it adding the rebuild costs!
Find a working one closer to you... there are Loads about!
